February Meeting

Thursday, February 7, 2013

Smithfield's Chicken & BAR-B-QUE
7304 Knightdale Blvd.
Knightdale, NC 27545

7:00 Meeting

Join us at 6:00pm for dinner!

Our special guest speaker will be newly re-elected NC Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby.  Justice Newby won a major victory in the last election by upsetting a liberal candidate whose political lineage runs deep in North Carolina.

Justice Newby is a North Carolina native and received his B.A. degree in Public Policy Studies (magna cum laude) from Duke University and law degree from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law.

Justice Newby interned with the U.S. Supreme Court, practiced law, and was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Raleigh for over 19 years.  He is an adjunct professor of Law at Campbell University, has received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Southern Wesleyan University, and has received more awards and accolades from his peers than we have room to mention here.

Justice Newby is an Eagle Scout and serves as Scoutmaster Emeritus of Troop 11 and as a board member of Occoneechee Council. He is the recipient of the Heroism Award for rescuing nine people from a riptide, of the God and Service Award, and of the Silver Beaver Award. In 2010, Justice Newby was named Scouter of the Year for his coordination of Scouting’s state-wide Report to the State, recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.

Justice Newby has been married to Macon Tucker Newby since 1983. They have four children, Samuel, Ruth, Peter and Sarah. He and his family attend Christ Baptist Church in Raleigh where he is an Elder, Sunday School teacher and youth leader.

Justice Newby joined the N.C. Supreme Court in 2004 and just won re-election to his second 8-year term.  We are truly privileged to have a man of his character on the Court, and we are doubly honored to have him as our guest for our February meeting.

In our work session, we will finish addressing the delegate process and our February Precinct Meetings and talk about the County Convention coming up in March.  Come out and learn how you too can be a voting delegate and make a difference!

Please make every effort to attend this month's meeting - and bring a friend! You won't want to miss this meeting!
